Review: Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Title: Delirium
Author: Lauren Oliver
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: February 1, 2011
Source: Goodreads.com

Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love - the deliria - blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.

My thoughts:

Wow...that's the first thing that comes to mind, right now as i'm thinking of more to say. Lauren Oliver in my opinion is one of the best young adult authors that knows how to make you feel something for characters and their situations and just the whole plot in general. She makes you think and wonder about life, love, and death. What if the government was trying to cure the world from love. What would the world be like if everyone just walked around not caring about others, never having fun or laughing too much because if you did the government would come and take you away and put you in a psycho ward, beat you to death, or even worse they try to "cure" you of it all, from not loving EVER. Once I was done reading, which was 20 minutes ago, on my kindle, I was like when and why hasn't the next book come out yet?!!(which comes out in 2012, called Pandemonium). It was that amazing. I've never been so in love with a book since..forever really. I love it so much I'm going to buy the book when it comes out even though I have it as an arc. The characters were so realistic and lovable you felt everything they felt, every pain, happiness, and sadness. The plot was fantastic, but also torturing once it ended, especially when it kind of ended with a cliff hanger. This book isn't about folowing your heart or doing what's right, but to love and not be afraid of it and to feel alive everyday and all day. Here are a couple of quotes from the book that I loved or touched me in some way:

"The past is nothing, but a weight. It will build inside of you like a stone." (Delirium)- Lauren Oliver

" Love, the deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it, and when you don't." (Delirium)- Lauren Oliver

" I love you. Remember. They cannot take it." (Delirium)-Lauren Oliver

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Title: Paranormalcy
Author: Kiersten White
Release Date: August 31, 2010
Publisher: Harper Teen
Source: Goodreads.com

Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.

But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

My Thoughts:

To Evie her life is just as normal as any teenager's. Capturing bad guys, watching teenage drama shows, having a best friend who's a mermaid, and working for a top agency that tracks down evil creatures, and having an ex-boyfriend who will never leave you alone, also seeing through all paranormal creature's glamour, and falling for a shape shifter, who's also a prisoner. Yep life couldn't be any more normal than Evie's. Until one day a disturbance that causes a scare through out her paranormal world, never knowing that she is part of it. Who knew instead of capturing evil creatures, she's meant to take their souls instead.
Paranormalcy is a different kind of book. Sure you have your vampires, werewolves, and other living paranormal creatures, but the thing is it doesn't just focus on one specific creature like most tiring paranormal books do now a days. It focus on different ones while also adding new ones and adding more abilities to some creatures, which I love because reading the same subject but different plot can be tiresome at times. I loved the character's especially Evie's mermaid friend, which I forgot her name, but that's okay most of the significant people who deserve rememberance are never remembered, sadly. Everything just fits perfectly from the action, relationship drama, friendshipsand the teen flirty dialogue. It wasn't forced or just slapped in to slap in, it felt natural. The plot was pretty good, except the ending. The ending was cute don't get me wrong, it's just that I was expecting a cliffhanger to make me anticipate the next one instead of say oh this was a good read, I wonder when the next book will come out, and then grab for the next book available to me. Besides the having any cliffhanger at the end, I'd say this book was 4 out 5. If you love sarcastic, but cute dialogue, stalker fairies, and kick butt action then this is a read for you. To express how much I enjoyed it i'm going to put two quote's from the book that I thought was really cute.

Quotes:

"Yes, I have a driver's license"

I leaned back against the wall, sighing. "Man, that must be so cool."

"It ranks right up there with lockers. In fact, sometimes I put my license inside my locker, and it's so cool I worry that the whole thing might explode with the sheer coolness of it all."
-Kiersten White (Paranormalcy)

"Lish tried to swear--which is always funny, because the computer won't translate it. It went something like this: "Bleep stupid bleep bleep faeries and their bleep bleep bleep obsessions. He had better stop bleep bleep bleep the bleep bleep rules or I will bleep bleep bleep the little bleeeeeeeeeeep."
-Kiersten White (Paranormalcy)

Review: Misguided Angel

Title: Misguided Angel
Author: Melissa De La Cruz
Publisher: Hyperion
Release Date: October 26,2010
Source: Goodreads.com

After inheriting the dark Van Alen Legacy, Schuyler fled to Florence with her forbidden love, Jack. Now the two of them must embark on the mission Schuyler was destined to complete: to find and protect the five remaining gates that guard the earth from Lucifer, lord of the Silver Bloods.

Back in New York, Mimi has been elected Regent of a crumbling coven. Struggling with her heartache over the loss of Kingsley and with her overwhelming desire to destroy Jack, she must focus all of her energy on a perilous new threat. Vampires are being abducted and their captors are planning to burn them alive online…for all the world to see. Help arrives in the form of Deming Chen, a Venator from Shanghai, who must untangle the web of deceptions before the killers strike again.

As the young vampires struggle for the survival of the coven, they uncover a deadly secret, a truth first discovered by Schuyler’s mother during the Renaissance but kept buried for centuries. And as the Blue Blood enclave weakens yet further, fate leads Schuyler to a terrible choice that will ultimately map the destiny of her heart

My Thoughts:

As I was reading this book, I was pretty much dreading about how I was going to write this review since a) I love this series b) I love the author's other works such as the Au Pairs series and lastly c) I really was anticipating this book and really wanted to enjoy it. So first I must admit I didn't finish the book because I just couldn't take another minute of it, I just felt like my soul was dying with each turning page....okay I'm exagerating, but I did feel something similar. So when you read the summary of a book you expect it to be mainly about that, well to my suprise it really kinda wasn't. The whole time while reading I kept wondering is this the same author who wrote this pretty good series and if so what happened? Like most fans of this series i'm a Schuyler and Jack fan, but the thing is they were barely in it.

They were only in it until page 80 and that's basically where part one ends, then the rest is all about Mimi and Oliver and them being together and ect, even though I kind of expected that to happen if Schuyler ever left Oliver, that he and Mimi would team up or have some type of collaberation with each other. I feel like i'm some what being unfair to this book, but then again I feel like I gave it my best to like it, but just couldn't go further into it. The character's were off, especially when it came to Jack and Schuyler's short part. To me their short part felt like something out of a Soap Opera or one of those cheesy romance novels you usually see house wives read with Fabio on the cover. Mimi deffinitely didn't sound like the take no crap from anyone Mimi and so on and on. The book was pretty much maybe the shortest book out of the series, when I looked at the end of the book the first thing that popped in my mind was Did a book worm eat the rest of it? Is she writing the rest and putting it online for free because we are such awesome fans? Or was she just being slack and decided to spin crap because she know we'll buy it?hmm..interesting, right? To me it just felt like she was creating another story with in an already plotted out storyline and just either got confused with her other series that she's writing or just got bored and decided they will either love it or hate it. Maybe whenever i'm bored again i'll pick it up and read the rest of it, but until then it's staying on my bookshelf.

Waiting on Wednesday (3, 4,& 5)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that bloggers are eagerly anticipating.
This week i'm going to feature three upcoming books. Why?because:
1) I've been slacking off with "Waiting on Wenesdays"
and
2) The books i'm going to show are coming out within two weeks. So it's more of "Informing Wednesday" than "Waiting On" since it's not that far away :D

Title: Awakened (House of Night #8 (Sadly))
Author: P.C and Kristin Cast

Stevie Rae is drawn even closer to Rephaim, the Raven Mocker with whom she shares a mysterious and powerful Imprint, but he is a dangerous secret that isolates her from her school, her red fledglings, and even her best friends. Title: Prom and Prejudice
Author: Elizabeth Eulberg
Realease Date: originally the first week of January, but recently moved to the week of December 27th, 2010, Link here for more info:
http://www.elizabetheulberg.com/blog/

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single girl of high standing at Longbourn Academy must be in want of a prom date.

After winter break, the girls at the very prestigious, very wealthy, girls-only Longbourn Academy are suddenly obsessed with the prom, which they share with the nearby, equally elitist, all-boys Pemberley School. Lizzie Bennet, who attends Longbourn on scholarship, isn't exactly interested in designer dresses and expensive shoes, but her best friend, Jane, might be-especially now that Charles Bingley is back from a semester in London.

Lizzie is happy about her friend's burgeoning romance, but less than impressed by Will Darcy, Charles's friend, who's snobby and pretentious. Darcy doesn’t seem to like Lizzie either, but she assumes it's because her family doesn't have money. Clearly, Will Darcy is a pompous jerk—so why does Lizzie find herself drawn to him anyway?

Will Lizzie’s pride and Will’s prejudice keep them apart? Or are they a prom couple in the making?

Title: The Lost Saint
Author: Bree Despain
Release Date: December 28, 2010 (even though at Books- A- Million they put it out early)

The non-stop sequel to The Dark Divine delivers an even hotter romance and more thrilling action than Bree Despain's first novel. Grace Divine made the ultimate sacrifice to cure Daniel Kalbi. She gave her soul to the wolf to save him and lost her beloved mother. When Grace receives a haunting phone call from Jude, she knows what she must do. She must become a Hound of Heaven. Desparate to find Jude, Grace befriends Talbot - a newcomer to town who promises her that he can help her be a hero. But as the two grow closer, the wolf grows in Grace, and her relationship with Daniel begins to crumble. Unaware of the dark path she is walking, Grace becomes prideful in her new abilities - not realizing that an old enemy has returned and deadly trap is about to be sprung. Readers, raveous for more Grace and Daniel, will be itching to sink their teeth into The Lost Saint.

Thoughts:
Just like almost everyone else with the House of Night Series, i'm in love with it :D, but lately it's been kind of going down hill.Plus most of my friends wish the series would come to an end instead of write 15 books to the series, there's no point to drag out uneccesary petty details. But hopefully this one will be good.

The second book showing, which is, Prom and prejudice which sounds really cute even though it's kind of a rip off of Pride and Prejudice (which I love the movie featuring Kiera Knightly in it). Also I loved Elizabeth Eulberg's last book The Lonely Heart's club which I did a review on here.

Last, but not least the one i've been dying to read since i've finished The Dark Divine before school was out of this year. As soon as I get some money i'm heading straight for Books A Million since they put it out, like not even a week of it's early date.

Looking for Alaska by John Green

Title:Looking for alaska
Pages:221
Author:John Green
Publisher:Dutton (Penguin Group)
Source:Goodreads.com

Before. Miles "Pudge" Halter is done with his safe life at home. His whole life has been one big non-event, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave "the Great Perhaps" even more (Francois Rabelais, poet). He heads off to the sometimes crazy and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young. She is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart. Then . . . After. Nothing is ever the same

My Thoughts:

I'm not really sure how to start this review since this book left me with no words only tears. Just like almost every teen that feels like they are a reject or just doesn't belong where they are and want to find out what's more to life, Miles wants to find the "Great Perhaps". So to find that he goes to boarding school and tries to start a new life there, while never knowing who and what event is going to shape and change his life forever. Looking for Alaska is one of those books that once you finish you stop and think about life. How some of us take it for granted and how we never tell anyone how we really feel about them until it's too late. This book kind of reminded me of Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver (also wrote a review on that book) except it's not about dying multiple times it's about a guy who wants to find more to life outside his dull town and meets someone who is totally different from what he's use to an event happens that makes him kind of question everything, but not even realizing until the very end that it's not about the "Great Perhaps",but about the labyrinth of suffering and a lot in between. Everything about this book from the message about living to the plot and Characters. Everything just seemed so real you felt for every little thing like it was actually happening to you. This book isn't all about the heavy stuff in life it also has it's hilarious moment's also. This book is absolutely awesome.

Book Hop (4) & Follow Friday (3)

Book Blogger Hop

"What do you consider the most important in a story: the plot or the characters?"
ah, an interesting question, but I would have to say both are extremely important. Why? because the plot is what made you want to read the book and if the plot isn't what you expected and turns out to be a flop :( well, then it's not really much of a read and the characters are just as important also since it's basically what makes up a book and gives you the feel of some of the book I should say and if the characters are boring and plain it's pretty hard to keep reading since your basically in agony of having to read plain characters :/, but it's mainly the plot that makes me want to read the book the characters is important but not nessecarily what I look or think much about when selecting a book.

What did you study in college, or are currently studying and did it lead to your current 9 to 5 or are you doing something totally different?

Well I can't really answer this question much, but since I am going to college in the Fall of 2011 i'm going to double major in English and Library Science :)

Book Hop (3) & Follow Friday (2)

Here it is again the Book hop and . The topic for the book hop is:

Book Blogger Hop

"What is the thing you like most about reading book blogs? Is it the reviews, author guest posts, articles, giveaways, or something else entirely?"

I would have to say the reviews and author guest posts are what I like most. I love to read about how another person feels toward a book that I either love or couldn't get into and also what authors have to say about the world they've created.

"Do you have an under-noticed author that you think we should all know about?"
Hmm..it's really kind of hard to say now since most of the authors that were unknown or undernoticed are becoming quite popular and are hitting the best sellers list even though their book has been out for years, but if I hit one i'll be sure to blog about it

Review: Last Sacrifice

Title: The last sacrifice
Pages: 594
Author: Richelle Mead
Publisher: Razor Bill
Source: Goodreads

Murder. Love. Jealousy.
And the ultimate sacrifice. Now, with Rose on trial for her life and Lissa
first
in line for the Royal Throne, nothing will ever be the same between
them

My Short Thoughts:
When I finished Last Sacrifice (which was 6 mins ago) my first reaction was OH MY GOSH, OH MY GOSH, and yet another OH MY GOSH with a silly smile on my face that I barely wear. No matter how many books I read after this, this I must say will forever be one of my favorite books and series. The ending was so amazingly beautiful I made a Facebook post and tagged Richelle Mead on it telling her how much she has made me happy. Throught the whole book I wanted to scream and yell (which I almost did during class today) whenever something happened that I didn't approve of, cry when I felt the pain of one of the characters, and just jump for joy for well...when something awesome or something I wanted to happen. I really don't know what else to say because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't read it yet, but all I have left to say is bravo!

My Book Blog (1) & Blog Hop(2)

My first Follow My Book Blog and soon tomorrow will be my second Book Hop, but anyways todays question is:

What do you do besides Reading/Reviewing as a hobby?

My Answer:
I love to do well lots of things like:
1) Playing Sims (I'm obsessed)
2) going on Flickr.com or Deviantart.com looking at photography
3) on facebook
4) texting my friends
5) watching movies
....I think that's about it lol I don't really do much except that and read :)

Blog Hop (2)

"What very popular and hyped book in the blogosphere did you NOT enjoy and how did you feel about posting your review?"
I would have to say Fallen (even though I love the book cover). I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy it since I didn't finish it, but I felt like it was missing something, trying a little too hard, and was pretty much repetitive with some stuff. I can't remember what exactly was repetitive since i've read so many books after I stopped reading it, but I don't know maybe whenever I don't have something to read or any money to buy anything i'll finish it and give it another shot but until then it's on my bookshelf collecting dust :(....now I feel bad.Oh and I didn't review it since well I didn't finish it lol.

Waiting on (late) Wednesday

Release Date:April 12th, 2011
Publisher: Harper Collins
Author: Kelley Armstrong
Pages: 400
Source: Goodreads.com

Maya lives in a small medical-research town on Vancouver Island. How small? You can’t find it on the map. It has less than two-hundred people, and her school has only sixty-eight students—for every grade from kindergarten to twelve.

Now, strange things are happening in this claustrophobic town, and Maya's determined to get to the bottom of them. First, the captain of the swim team drowns mysteriously in the middle of a calm lake. A year later, mountain lions start appearing around Maya's home, and they won’t go away. Her best friend, Daniel, starts getting negative vibes from certain people and things. It doesn't help that the new bad boy in town, Rafe, has a dangerous secret—and he's interested in one special part of Maya's anatomy: Her paw-print birthmark

Why I'm Excited:
I'm so excited for this book it doesn't even make sense. I love her first young adult series, The Darkest Powers (The Summoning, The Awakening, and The Reckoning), it's an awesome series with likeable characters, a little bit of witty dialogue, romance, and just anything you can name :) I have a feeling this series won't fail me..I haven't read her other series for adults but I might give it a try. I find it funny how the main character's name, Maya, is my name.
